 BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT @ CLOUD NINE Just in time for all the skin baring fashions of spring, Cloud Nine is offering our special on all bikini waxing services. For those of you unfamiliar with this simple,economic service, or more likely for the feint of heart we offer the following tips: BEFORE THE PROCEDURE We advise clients not to consume alcohol or caffeine befor the service. Drinking coffee can increase acidity,sensitivity, and blood flow, so people tend to turn redder. Taking an antacid can help reduce the acidity in the body, making the skin less sensitive.Remember to not wear tight clothing, and have at least a quarter inch of body hair before waxing- that's about 3 weeks of growth for most people. DURING THE PROCEDURE We prepare the skin by drying it as much as possible,cleansing, and then applying the wax. The wax is applied in small, specific areas, and quickly removed for less discomfort. A soothing lotion is applied post wax, to cool and calm the skin, and that's it. Every precaution is taken during the service to make sure the areas worked on, and all utensils are 100% sterile. AFTERWORD The skin will be slightly pink and sensitive for about one hour, and we suggest keeping it out of the sun for at least 24 hours. We asked our personal skin gurus to spill their best secrets for you. Here's what we found: It helps to know what really works and what's just great smelling hype. STEAMING: If pores are clogged, steaming lets you clean out pores without excessive pressure. It works on all skin types,but should be done only on clean skin. EXTRACTIONS: Attacking a pimple on your own causes redness and swelling because of bacteria. A precision job can clear it up faster, with less trauma. MASKS: we find soothing and exfoliating masks to have the very best results for all skin types. When masks are combined with steaming, they work most effectively. PEELS: All of our experts and many more agree that any peel with gycolic, salicylic, lactic, or citric acid will exfoliate more effectively than a grainy scrub. We also feel that a high concentration of AHA peel can increase collagen production. This is where you should spend your money. September 23 through 25th promises to be a spectacular opportunity to meet and learn with several world reknown colorists. Our selected stylists will attend three demostrations put on by Beth Minardi of NYC's Minardi Salon, Jennifer Grafton of Virginia's Salon Bleu and Erick Parodi of Miami's Paris Claire Salon as well as specialized classes focusing on Permanent and Demi-Permanent Color Options, creating dramatic effects using light to dark colors, blonding techniques, and how to accent today's modern cuts with color. Remember when you had the spare time to lounge on the beach, spraying lemon juice from a mist bottle into your hair to create natural highlights? If you’re like most women, those days are gone. But while your schedule is incredibly hectic, you can still get the look without basking in the sun (which, as we all know, is bad for you, anyway). Ride the wave of light with highlights or lowlights—two techniques to create stripes of contrast throughout your hair. They can be subtle (reddish tones on brown hair) or dramatic (blonde highlights on brunette hair). You can have thick chunks of color, which continue to be popular, or a carefully selected number of thin highlighted strands for a more restrained look. Highlights are easier to maintain than all-over, or single-process, color. They require minimal maintenance (every eight to 16 weeks), which can be desirable for women who have trouble booking long salon appointments due to time constraints. By definition, highlights lighten and brighten your hair. Lowlights, by contrast, darken and deepen hair color. Many salons are using multi-tonal color, not limiting their palette to a single color when highlighting or lowlighting. Blending colors provides a more natural look. For more mainstream highlighting, the process is relatively simple: Hair is sectioned by an experienced stylist, who applies color from the roots down to the selected strands. While there are many application techniques, many stylists rely on foils, folding color-treated strands into foil sheets to prevent dye from spreading. The stylist sets the timer for a designated period (depending on your natural color and the shades chosen for highlighting or lowlighting), and the strands are allowed to “process.” Using a professional stylist is advisable, as she can mix colors, understands coloring chemistry and knows how to avoid overprocessing your hair. Most stylists recommend having highlights or lowlights applied in the salon setting. If you have any concerns about home highlighting, or if you’ve never colored your hair before, take the safe road and book an appointment with a colorist.
